Amrum

In the final weeks of World War II, twelve-year-old Nanning Bohm lives on Amrum, an island off Germany’s North Sea coast. Working in potato fields and collecting driftwood for fuel, he helps his mother provide for the family as the war nears its end.

Drama

The film draws on Hark Bohm’s childhood memories. Bohm originally intended to direct it himself, then handed directing duties to Fatih Akin, who also co-wrote the screenplay.
