Oh, This Unspeakable Void

At 20, Joachim is unexpectedly awarded a place at Munich's prestigious Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts and moves into his grandparents' villa. Between the bizarre challenges of drama school and the eccentric, mostly alcohol-fuelled rituals of Inge and Hermann, he tries to find his place in the world. Simon Verhoeven adapts Joachim Meyerhoff's autobiographical bestseller with insane humour and deep feeling, directing his own mother, screen legend Senta Berger. A box office phenomenon with over a million admissions, the film won three German Film Awards 2026, including Best Feature Film in Bronze and acting honours for Berger and Michael Wittenborn.
