The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (bc30)
After a stroke leaves him with locked-in syndrome, ELLE editor Jean-Dominique Bauby remains conscious but can move only his left eye. With a speech therapist's help, he learns to communicate by blinking and begins recording his memories. The film moves between his hospital life and recollections of his family and past.
Drama
Adapted from its protagonist's memoir of the same name, the film uses his left-eye perspective, including blinking and blurred vision, to depict his experience.
